Apps (really) for all – accessible visitor guides rethought
Joint presentation by grauwert with MicroMovieMedia at the online symposium “Lockdown and beyond – Digital concepts and solutions for museums”. Here we present the process necessary not only to meet the technical requirements of accessibility, but also to conceptually develop formats and content for apps that are attractive to people with and without disabilities – in fact, to everyone. This holistic approach keeps the interests of the visitors, the content of the museums and the pragmatic implementation in mind from the very beginning as we show in the development process of the accessible apps and visitor guides (Klassik Stiftung Weimar, Humboldt Forum).

Apps für (wirklich) alle – barrierefreie Visitor Guides neu gedacht
Deutsche Museen im Mai 2020: Elementare Einschränkungen bei Gruppenführungen, Leihgeräten wie Audioguides und bei interaktiven Stationen und Screens, die aus Hygienegründen nicht genutzt werden können.
Hier bieten Apps auf dem eigenen Handy einen alternativen Zugang: sie ermöglichen virtuelle Rundgänge durch die Ausstellung, bieten diverse Formate und Inhalte und dienen der Vor- und Nachbereitung des Museumsbesuchs.
Dieser Ansatz ist auch für Menschen mit einer Behinderung höchst interessant: Alternativen für unterschiedlichste Anforderungen, angeboten als ein attraktiver Mehrwert für alle Menschen anstelle defizitorientierter Speziallösungen für Menschen mit Beeinträchtigungen.
GuidePilot (MicroMovieMedia) stellt in Kooperation mit Mathias Knigge vom Büro grauwert einen Prozess dar, mit dem nicht nur die technischen Anforderungen der Barrierefreiheit erfüllt werden, sondern konzeptionell auch Formate und Inhalte für Apps entwickelt werden, die für Menschen mit und ohne Behinderung – eben für alle – attraktiv sind.
Dabei liegt der Fokus auf einem holistischen Ansatz, der von Anfang an die Interessen der BesucherInnen, die Inhalte der Museen und die pragmatische Umsetzung im Auge behält.

COVID-19 will have a long-term and profound impact on the operation of museums and cultural institutions, even beyond current measures. Digital solutions in particular rank high as potential measures. But what is possible? What makes sense? What is realistic and practicable? What does a solution need to look like in order to be sustainable?
We would like to approach these questions on the basis of this online symposium with the help of experts from the digital industry.
The online symposium is aimed at all museum professionals who are concerned with the implementation of digital solutions and their potential in relation to COVID-19 or are simply interested in it.
